- The Constitution of India ensures equality, freedom, justice and dignity of all individuals and implicitly mandates an inclusive society for all including Person with Disabilities.
- The Department of Social Welfare is the nodal department in GNCT of Delhi for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and believes in the fact “Help the Differently Abled Persons to help themselves”.
- According to the India Census 2011, the total populations of NCT of Delhi is 1,67,87,941 and the population of persons with disabilities in terriory is 2,34,882 i.e. 1.4% of the total population. According to the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) 5% of our population of 102 crores is with disabilities.
- The Delhi Govt. through its various initiatives and program’s is rendering full support to the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, so that they can live with full participation and have equal involvement in the every aspect of Society.
- A full time State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has been appointed for NCT of Delhi for taking steps to safeguard the rights of Persons with Disabilities and monitior implementations of the Act and Rule.
- Shri T.D.Dhariyal is the present State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, GNCTD with Office at 25-D, Mata Sundari Road, Near Guru Nanak Eye Center, New Delhi-110002.
- Sh. Rahul Aggarwal is the Dy. Director (Disabilities) at Department of Social Welfare, GNCTD. She is the Nodal Officer for Implementation of Act and Rule pertaining to Welfare of Persons with Disabilities in NCT of Delhi.
